What will be on the menu at Buckingham Palace on April 29 when Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrate their marriage?

Darren McGrady, former chef to Princess Diana, tells People.com he expects a mix of traditional English fare along with some of Kate and William’s favorite dishes.

The lunch time reception, immediately following the vows, will include a decadent breakfast with champagne and h’ors d’oeurves like smoked salmon, pate and mini sausage rolls.

Later in the evening, the couple will host a buffet style dinner and dancing.

“They like to showcase British food, so there might be Gaelic steaks with braised rice,” McGrady says. “But I wouldn’t be surprised if cottage pie (reportedly William’s favorite) is somewhere on the menu.”

McGrady, who served strawberries and cream for Fergie and Prince Andrew on their wedding day, says William and Kate may prefer a simpler menu.

“The royal family will not want to be seen as going backwards and actually having a big, seven-course meal with a soup course and a fish course,” he says. “They will want to make it more modern.”
