Prince William and Kate Middleton will be married on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey.
The announcement was made via the British Monarchy Twitter on Tuesday morning.
Westminster Abbey, which can seat 2,000 guests, was the site of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip‘s 1947 wedding. It is also the historic London church where Princess Diana‘s funeral was held.
William and Kate are said to have chosen the venue for its beauty, intimacy and historic royal connections.
The royal wedding date will be a public holiday in the U.K. It is also the feast day of St. Catherine of Sienna.
