Pete Sampras and Bridgette Wilson Wedding
Beverly Hills, California
September 30, 1999
Pete Sampras married Bridgette Wilson on September 30, 1999 in an intimate backyard ceremony at the groom’s Beverly Hills home. Among the 80 guests in attendence were Wayne Gretzky and Jim Courier.
Because of the bride and groom’s hectic schedules, the vows were planned only six weeks ahead of time with the help of wedding coordinator Rob Smith of Laurels Custom Flora.
The backyard was transformed into an elegant garden, with white chairs, an archway covered in white flowers, and white candles with flowers floating in the pool. The bride walked down the aisle to “The Wedding March” in an ivory silk georgette Vera Wang gown, accented with $400,000 of borrowed jewels by Fred Leighton. The groom wore an Armani tuxedo. The 20-minute ceremony was as officiated by the bride’s friend, Pastor Tim Brueckner.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed poolside hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, and later entered a reception tent (erected on the tennis court) decorated with flowers, chandeliers and mirrors. The couple shared their first dance to “I Know How The River Feels” by Diamond Rio.
After dinner, Pete surprised everyone with a live performance by Elton John, who played a 45-minute greatest hits set. Afterward, R&B group One O’Clock Band played dance classics.
As wedding favors, guests were given an Elton John CD and Jordan almonds, a Greek tradition in honor of Pete’s heritage.
The couple honeymooned in Mexico.
