Jason Alexander and Britney Spears at Their Shotgun Vegas Wedding

Little White Chapel

Las Vegas, Nevada

January 3, 2004

Britney Spears married childhood friend Jason Alexander on January 3, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the shotgun wedding, the bride wore a baseball cap, belly-baring black shirt and torn jeans. The ceremony took place at 5:30 a.m. in the Michael Jordan room of A Little White Wedding Chapel.

The couple was shuttled to the chapel in a lime green limousine by a bellman from the Palms Casino Hotel, where they had been partying earlier in the night. Before they could be legally married, they stopped at the Clark County Marriage Bureau and were granted a marriage license for $55.

Britney walked down the aisle to “The Wedding March” on the arm of the hotel bellman. She held a bouquet of pink roses and wore a white garter, which she bought at the chapel, over her torn jeans. The seven-minute ceremony was officiated by minister, Ian Schonken, who pronounced the couple husband and wife and watched them share a passionate kiss.

The bride used her credit card to pay for the $200 wedding, which included photos, a bouquet and video. After the wedding, the couple returned to their suite at the Palms Casino Hotel.

The marriage was annulled 55 hours later. Spears claimed she lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.
