Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are celebrating three years of marriage today. The couple were married on November 18, 2006 at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. They exchanged white gold Cartier wedding bands during a twenty-minute Scientology ceremony and following the vows, a reception was held in the grand Hall of the Caesars.

How They Met: On April 18, 2005, Cruise invited Holmes to his office to meet about future film projects. They had an instant connection and the meeting lasted four hours.

First Date: Tom hosted Katie for a sushi dinner aboard his private jet.

Engagement: Tom proposed to Katie on June 17, 2005 over a candlelit dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. He presented her with a five-carat Edwardian style oval diamond engagment ring.

Wedding: The lavish four-day affair was rumored to have cost $3.5 million and many A-list guests were in attendance. Holmes wore a custom Armani wedding dress, and at dusk her husband surprised her with a fireworks show set to classical music. At the reception, Andrea Bocelli performed and a five-tiered white chocolate wedding cake was served.

On Marriage: “When I met Tom, I knew in an instant that we were going to be together, that we were going to get married,” Katie has said. “He does have a very big life. And you know, we just do it. And, as a woman, you make that transition from being single to [being] a partner. I have a teammate, and it’s like, we’re going to make this work.”
