Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are celebrating their third wedding anniversary today. The traditional anniversary gift for the third year of marriage is leather. Leather is durable, flexible and resilient, qualities that make for a succesful marriage. Popular gift ideas include handbags, wallets, gloves or leather bound journals. 

How They Met: Keith and Nicole met in January of 2005 at a gala for G’Day LA: Australia Week, an event that honors Australians who have made significant international contributions. Prior to their introduction at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, they had never met.

Engagement: Nicole confirmed the couple were engaged on May 13, 2006. While being interviewed at a UNIFEM gala, Kidman was asked about her “boyfriend.” She corrected the interviewer saying, “He’s actually my fiance. I wouldn’t be bringing my boyfriend.”

The Wedding: Nicole and Keith were married on June 25, 2006 at Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Sydney. At the reception, Keith serendaded Nicole with his song, “Memories of Us,” causing his bride to cry. Following the vows, the newlyweds honeymooned at the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort.

On Marriage: “My husband Keith is the most important person in my life, and I am for him,” Nicole has said. “We were two lonely people who met at a time when we could open ourselves up to each other. We were a mixture of brave and frightened. Since getting married, I have passed up a lot of projects. I don’t want to be away from the person I love. Home is in my husband’s arms.”
